Areas of Expertise

EMDR

Eye Movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an established treatment for trauma-related issues, with strong evidence for its efficacy in the treating of PTSD. The technique was initially used with Vietnam Veterans who suffered from PTSD but it is now widely used in general populations with adults, adolescents and children and addresses a broad spectrum of traumatic, affective and anxiety disorders. The theory underlying EMDR presumes that when a memory of a disturbing event is inadequately processed, neural networks can freeze the related perceptions, emotions, bodily sensations and cognitions in a state of potential activation, identical to the actual time of the traumatic memory. In brief, people can be triggered in the present by an event, and then re-experience the distress as acutely as in the past. EMDR attempts to process disturbing memories by using bilateral eye movements, audio, or tapping to facilitate connections between neural networks in the brain by unblocking maladaptively stored subconscious images, emotions and body sensations. the neurons rewire and memories are processed and move from the limbic to the prefrontal part of the brain allowing for adaptive, present day and compassionate processing.

NJ LSW Clinical Supervision

I offer small group and individual supervision for LSW's in New Jersey. If you enjoy being challenged and want to expand your clinical skills and find your own therapeutic style then let's talk more! I really enjoy working with LSW's to grow both confidence and clinical expertise.

Case Consultation

"Stuckness" is part of our work as therapists. First, a warning. Like in life, when we're frustrated in our attempts and interventions, a reaction readily available to us is that of blame. I caution during this experience, against blaming the client. Before "giving up" on a client in the form of termination or a referral, it is our responsibility to explore barriers to change the client may be encountering. A lack of progress in therapy is the effect of a variety of factors. Oftentimes, evaluating and reflecting on past goals, client accomplishments, as well as therapist factors can allow for collaborative conversations that illuminate reasons for "stuckness" as well as options for next steps. Let me help you explore what might be happening in the therapy room and find a path forward. It can be frustrating and confusing to suddenly find ourselves stuck when previously, our client was showing progress. Let's talk - avoid the blame game!

My Approach

My therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, compassion, and deep respect for the people I work with. I view you as more than the sum of your symptoms. Empathy and hand-holding is not sufficient for change.   I believe in  keeping it real and talking straight. I will challenge you with direct feedback, fostering self-reflection, and personal growth to help achieve the insights and positive changes you seek as soon as possible.

I value all aspects of who you are, including your unique experiences, challenges, and strengths. Your cultural, racial and spiritual beliefs, perspectives and values are honored and respected.

Whether we’re working together in a therapeutic relationship or in a supervisory one, I will help you identify your strengths and positive attributes and build on those.

In working with me you will experience a relaxed, and refreshingly down-to-earth space where you can freely express yourself and laughter finds its rightful place alongside growth.
